Drumagog 6 vs UVI Drum Replacer
You have a drum bus that needs help, and no time to build a sample collection first. What you want to know is which drum replacer gets the session done with less work. This page takes Drumagog 6 and UVI’s Drum Replacer through the questions buyers ask.
The short answer
Both plug-ins trigger samples from your drum tracks as the song plays. Drum Replacer plays the samples and instruments you bring to it, from one detection per copy. Drumagog 6 comes with 536 GOGs, and it ranks them against your drum. Every hit it finds sits on the waveform, ready to fix. With Platinum, one copy on the drum bus replaces all six drums.
Drumagog 6 is the one to choose if you want to
- start with a full factory library
- fix any hit without leaving the plug-in
- replace the whole kit from one drum bus with Platinum
- skip the iLok account
- take a full week to try it

Drumagog 6 details are from this site. Drum Replacer details are from UVI’s product page and manual.
What sounds come with it?
UVI’s page describes Drum Replacer as a way to trigger your own samples and virtual instruments. Either one loads onto its eight tracks. To find them, a built-in browser shows the sounds already on your computer. No drum library is listed on the page.
A paid Drumagog 6 license includes the factory library of 536 GOGs, with sounds for the kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, ride and crash. Play the song once, and every GOG is ranked by how close it sounds to your drum. Your own samples are welcome too. Drop a file onto a drum, and it plays right away.
Verdict Drumagog 6 has the edge. The sounds are in the box.

Can I fix a single hit?
No drum replacer gets every hit on a real take. In Drum Replacer, the fix is in the detection settings. UVI’s manual gives you a Threshold, a Cooldown and an Inhibition time, among others. Each one applies to every hit the detector hears. The manual describes no way to add, move or remove a single hit.
Drumagog 6 shows every hit it finds as a marker on the waveform. A missed ghost note goes in with a double-click. If a hit is in the wrong place, drag it to the right one. Dragging a marker up or down makes the hit harder or softer. Nothing else in the song changes.
Verdict Drumagog 6 has the edge. You fix the one hit and leave the rest alone.

Can one copy replace the whole kit?
UVI’s own page says each detection is sent to all eight of the plug-in’s tracks. A trigger mode then decides which of those tracks play. For MIDI, the manual gives each copy one note and one channel.
With Platinum, put one copy of Drumagog 6 on a drum bus, an overhead pair or a room mic. Kit mode finds the hits on the kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, ride and crash. Each drum has its own lane on the TRIGGER page, with its own THRESHOLD and its own GOG. On the MIX page, you get six strips side by side, plus a master. In Pro Tools and REAPER, every drum can even get its own track.
Verdict Drumagog 6 has the edge. One copy handles six drums.

Will the sample line up with my drum?
In Drum Replacer, you line things up yourself. Each track has a Trigger Delay that moves its sample earlier or later. You set it while watching the sample against the source in the waveform display. Pitch matching and an Invert Phase switch are there to help.
Drumagog 6 lines up every sample for you. Align to Phase is the default, and it matches the body of each sample to the original drum. When your drum and the sample are tuned differently, Align to Transient puts the start of each sample on the start of the hit. Turn on SHOW ALIGNMENT, and each replacement is drawn over your waveform, exactly where it plays.
Verdict Drumagog 6 has the edge. The alignment is done for you on every hit.

One kick hit with SHOW ALIGNMENT on. The replacement sits in white over the original.
What about bleed?
This is where Drum Replacer starts. With a LEARN pass, it splits the incoming signal into up to five components plus a remainder. You mute the ones you don’t want before they reach the detector.
Drumagog 6 works from the hits. Select one false hit and press REMOVE SIMILAR, and every hit on the track that sounds like it goes in one step. Between copies of Drumagog, bleed reduction keeps the kick from triggering the snare mic’s copy. Platinum adds a gate in front of the detector.
Verdict Call this one even. Each has its own way to keep bleed out.

Can I get MIDI out of it?
Drum Replacer sends MIDI out and can record it. You click to start recording, play the part, and then drag the result to a MIDI track. Each copy uses one note and one channel.
In Drumagog 6, every hit is already a note on a piano roll, with a row for each drum. Editing those notes works the way it does in your DAW. Drag the take onto a track as a MIDI clip. In Kit mode, each drum can get a track of its own. Ready-made note maps cover General MIDI and Toontrack’s Superior Drummer and EZdrummer.
Verdict Drumagog 6 has the edge. The whole kit’s MIDI sits on one piano roll.

Can it play my drum instrument?
Yes, in both. Any of Drum Replacer’s eight tracks can hold a virtual instrument.
With Platinum, Drumagog 6 loads a drum instrument such as Superior Drummer, EZdrummer or BFD. It plays from the same hits as your GOGs. A slider crossfades between your samples and the instrument. If the instrument has several outputs, each one gets a fader and a meter.
Verdict Call this one even. Both can play an instrument straight from the hits.
What about the iLok and the trial?
Drum Replacer is $99 on UVI’s site. For its license, you need a free iLok account. The free trial runs for three days, and it asks for the UVI Portal and a UVI account.
Drumagog 6 Pro is $99 and Platinum is $199, each as a one-time purchase. Your license lives in your drumagog.com account, with no iLok. Once you sign in on a computer, Drumagog works offline from then on. Before you buy, the free trial gives you the complete Platinum edition for seven days.
Verdict Drumagog 6 has the edge. You get a full week to try it, without an iLok account.
What UVI’s own page says
You don’t have to take our word for any of this. Each line below links to where it was published.
“Detection creates a note trigger sent internally to all 8 tracks in Drum Replacer.”
“Enjoy a 3-day free trial.”
“iLok account (free, dongle not required)”

Questions buyers ask
Can Drumagog 6 replace UVI Drum Replacer?
Yes. Drumagog 6 does the same job on a close mic in Live or Drum mode. With Platinum, it also replaces a whole kit from the drum bus.
Does Drumagog 6 need an iLok?
No. Your license lives in your drumagog.com account. Sign in once on each computer, and Drumagog works offline from then on.
Does Drumagog 6 come with sounds?
Yes. A paid Pro or Platinum license includes the factory library of 536 GOGs, with sounds for every kind of drum. The store inside Drumagog adds collections from us and from other publishers.
Can Drumagog 6 host a virtual instrument?
Yes, with Platinum. Load one VST3 instrument, and the hits play it with no MIDI routing. On macOS, an Audio Unit instrument works too.
Can I use my own samples?
Yes. Drop an audio file onto a drum to play it right away, or drop a folder to build a GOG from it.
What does the free trial include?
The complete Platinum edition for seven days, with five demo GOGs and any samples of your own. The full factory library comes with a paid license.
Does the trial add beeps or noise to my audio?
No. The trial sounds exactly like the full version.
Which features need Platinum?
Kit mode, automatic hi-hat and tom tracking, STACK, the gate, the transient shaper, the convolution reverb, Morph|Engine and plugin hosting. The free trial includes all of them.

Only to sign in the first time on each computer, to download the included library and to use the store. After that Drumagog works offline for as long as you like.
Will Kit mode run on my computer?
A modern computer runs one Kit mode instance on the drum bus comfortably. The free trial is the best way to see how it runs on yours.
Can I send the six drums to separate outputs?
Yes. In Kit mode each drum strip has a stereo output of its own, in DAWs that allow extra outputs on an effect plug-in, such as Pro Tools and REAPER.
Try Kit mode on your own drum bus.
The free trial gives you the complete Platinum edition for seven days.
